The 19th International AIDS Conference 2012
Start planning your input into AIDS 2012 now. Washington, USA. 22-27 July 2012
The 19th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) will be held in Washington DC, USA, from 22-27 July 2012. These conferences, held every two years, draw more than 20,000 people working in the field of HIV, as well as people living with HIV, policy makers and others committed to ending the epidemic. They provide extensive opportunities for sharing and networking across all levels of care and response to the epidemic.
The faith-based response to HIV and AIDS has become more visible and integrated because of the increased engagement and coordination of faith-based representatives over the past four International AIDS Conferences. It is vital that the facilitation of such faith-based participation continues to grow and be built upon in the run-up to and during AIDS 2012.
Keep track of upcoming deadlines in 2011 and early 2012
Check the new AIDS 2012 website regularly for all upcoming opportunities to input into the main conference. In particular, please note the process and deadlines for:
1. Abstract submissions – ask for support from EAA members
By submitting abstracts, people involved in the HIV response have the opportunity to lead a session during AIDS 2012 that demonstrates original work in one of the following five areas: A, Basic Science, B. Clinical Science, C. Epidemiology and Prevention Science, D. Social Science, Human Rights and Political Science, and E. Implementation Science, Health Systems and Economics.
Abstract submission will open towards the end of 2011, but it is vital to ensure rigorous preparation of these abstracts well in advance. Several EAA members have extensive experience of developing successful abstracts. As a result, the EAA is putting together a team of experts to provide advice to other faith-based organizations wishing to develop an abstract. Contact rfoley@e-alliance.ch if you are interested in being part of or consulting this team.
2. Registrations and Scholarships – keep an eye on www.aids2012.org
Registration is not yet open for AIDS 2012, however the prices and registration deadlines are available. Registration prices will rise sharply after 23 February 2012, so make sure you have the date in your diary. Some scholarships will also be available, with the application process beginning in the latter half of 2011.
