On Monday, 30 April 2007, the newly reconstituted South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) adopted the HIV & AIDS and STI Strategic Plan for South Africa 2007 – 2011 (the NSP). The ALP looks forward to working closely with all sectors to ensure that the NSP is properly implemented and its targets are met. In particular, we commit to aligning our work on litigation and legal services, policy and research, and teaching and training with the NSP’s Priority Area 4, dealing with human rights and access to justice.

For further comment on SANAC’s adoption of the NSP, see the press release of the SANAC Law and Human Rights Sector working committee (which includes representation from the AIDS Law Project (ALP), the Lesbian and Gay Equality Project, the Legal Resources Centre, the South African Human Rights Commission, the South African Medical Association, the Legal Aid Board, Tshwaranang Legal Advocacy Centre and the private legal profession).
