Sudan HIV/AIDS Video Project

Southern Sudan has been a conflict zone between the government of Sudan and the Sudan People’s liberation movement since 1983.During the war the youth were physically involved in the war and this has led to division among the youth. Many have dropped out of school and are hopeless. Violence has become a way of living among them.

With the recent signing of the comprehensive peace agreement (CPA) there is an effort to reconcile, rebuild and reconstruct Sudan. Sudan has received an influx of Returnees from countries like Uganda, Congo and Central Africa Republic. The mixture of all the people has led to an increase in violence, immorality and cultural break down and as a result Southern Sudan has reported one of the highest numbers of HIV/AIDS in Sudan.

The HIV/AIDS Video project will assist in curbing the HIV/AIDS pandemic as well as the violence. It will also help to forge reconciliation and unity among the youth through engaging the youth in the HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization as well as encouraging interaction through seminars.

This Video will be made in the most popular language used in Southern Sudan, the local Arabic known as Arabi Juba. The Film will take 45 minutes with clear educative information will be able to be used in related workshops, youth gatherings and for teaching in general.

MOTIVATION.

New Sudan sports ministry (NSSM) is a non governmental and interdenominational youth ministry started way back in 2000 in Kiryandongo Refugee camp in Northern Uganda. The ministry has been working in the refugee camps carrying out HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns through sporting activities, mainly soccer, netball volleyball etc. These campaigns have been successful, because sporting activities always attract a big gathering of youth, who later get educated and sensitized on HIV/Aids awareness. In early 2005, the ministry took the campaign to New Sudan, notably the counties of Kapoeta, Ikotos.Magwi, Lopa and Budi.

The ministry has been organising and taking part in HIV/AIDS workshops and campaigns in the Refugee camps and in most parts of Southern Sudan. Last year we had only 22 football teams, but now we have 70 teams. It was a blessing to us and we are working very hard in shaping the lives of our youth and community at large in a Godly manner.

We therefore trust in God that this Video will help a lot as soon as it is out.

PLANNED DURATION/TIMEFRAME .

This Video project will be shot in the most rural place so that the community really understands the meaning. It is planned to take place in July 2006.

The Film/Video will be distributed to all parts of Southern Sudan. It will be the first project of its kind in the country.

IMPLIMENTATION STRATEGY.

New Sudan sports ministry will establish a steering committee, which will work with experienced characters for the video to ensure that the activities being carried out are relevant to the identified guidance needs. Filming of the video will take 7 days.

To achieve this, the steering committee will coordinate with various bodies to identify gaps in the existing efforts to fight HIV/AIDS. The steering committee will also determine the overall priorities, oversee the proposed strategy and, most importantly, monitor and to evaluate the project activities.

TARGET BENEFICARIES.

This project seeks to support the youth and the community. The ultimate beneficiaries of this project are:
- the youth, who still have a long way to face the challenges of this world because for all this time they have not had such opportunities, and
- church leaders and women groups, so that they will go out and equip others in their various communities.

It is hoped that everybody in the community will benefit from this Video project, even those in the grass root level, because it will be in the local language that all will understand. Topics covered will include:

-How HIV/AIDS is transmitted & its spread.
-Importance of counselling and testing.
-Christian responses.
-Positive living.
-Dealing with death and dying.

PROJECT LOCATION.

The New Sudan Sports Ministry will do the shooting from Kiryandongo Refugee settlement camp .When it is all finished the Films will be distributed to all parts of the Southern Sudan.

OBJECTIVES.

The objective of this Video project is to establish a community with vibrant youth who are aware of the menace of HIV/AIDS, hardworking and peace loving, to create a sustainable human resource necessary in this period of rebuilding, reconstruction and reconciliation of the people in the Sudan.

This Video project will help the Sudanese people to fight this pandemic like any other country in Africa.

It will also act as an eye opener to the Church because most churches in the Sudan are reserved about the pandemic and the video will include pastors.

THE VIDEO PROJECT BUDGET.

The New Sudan Sports Ministry budgeted $1200 for the Video and $600 for the characters, $250 for meals for 7 days and $200 for transportation. Therefore in total we need 2250 $
